Dr. Thelma Witherspoon
Dr. Thelma Witherspoon, is a native of Atlantic City, New Jersey and currently resides in Mays Landing, NJ.
Dr. Witherspoon retired from the City of Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Police Department after 35 years of service.
Dr. Witherspoon was a former Vice-President and then President of the Atlantic City Board of Education for 2 years. During her tenure and under her leadership, along with the Board Members, ground was broken for two new elementary schools: New York Avenue School and Sovereign Avenue School. Also under her leadership renovations were started for the Uptown Complex, Chelsea Heights, and Martin Luther King Schools.
Dr. Witherspoon served as the former 2nd Vice President of the Atlantic City Chapter of the NAACP. In 2018, she was elected as Atlantic County Committee Person-At-Large of Hamilton Township, NJ and was also the Atlantic County Faith Based Coordinator for Hillary Clinton’s Presidential Campaign. Dr. Witherspoon is a former member of the Historical preservation commission for Hamilton Township, NJ. In June of 2022, Dr. Witherspoon was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Atlantic County Democratic Party.
She is the Pastor of the Westminister Christian Worship Center in Atlantic City, NJ and a member of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City and Vicinity.
Dr. Thelma is a graduate of Jameson Bible School and the International Christian University earning a BA and MA in Biblical Theology. She received her Doctor of Divinity by CICA International University.
Dr. Thelma Witherspoon, graduated from LEAD Act in 2016 and was an honoree for the Atlantic City Hometown Heroes in 2017 and also an honoree for the 2022 New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award.
Dr. Thelma Witherspoon is also a radio host on two-time Stella Award WEHA Gospel 88.7 and 100.3 FM every Saturday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, “In The Community with Dr. Thelma Witherspoon”.


Yvette Soto
In 1990, she earned a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University, with a minor in Elementary Education and a major in Communications (Television Production).
Yvette is a playwright and has also directed and acted in a number of plays. In 1992, she did her professional debut in a leading role of Juanita for René Marqués play, La Carreta.
Most recently she wrote and directed the monologues “Caras de Vida,” a two-hour musical production and the play Se Oyen Gritos where she founded Kerygma Theater Company. Kerygma Theater Company introduces individuals to Theater Arts in the form of acting, song and dance. She serves as the playwright, director, producer and also as actress of KTC productions.
She taught Bilingual Education for the Windham Public Schools system in Connecticut for (3) years. After attending Cleveland State University where she started her graduate work, she then moved to the City of Atlantic City to work for the Atlantic City Free Public Library as their Director of Development/Public Information Officer. She worked for the City of Atlantic City for 6 years.
After volunteering for the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter for (3) years, she accepted the position of Director of Development and Public Affairs. She was responsible for raising funds for the Disaster Relief efforts of the American Red Cross. She oversaw the Fund Development Department and the Public Relations Department of the American Red Cross in Atlantic, Cape and Cumberland counties.
Ms. Soto served as a member of the National Headquarters American Red Cross Corporate Diversity Hispanic/Latino Network. This network kept in touch via email to share information on trends and issues in the Hispanic/Latino community and stays informed on what the Red Cross is doing to further outreach to the Hispanic/Latino community. The network was also used as a sounding board for input on how to better outreach and recruit Hispanic/Latinos and Latinas. This national group was made up of 68 members from across the nation.
Yvette Soto founded the Latin Music Festival of the Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade founded by Robert Maldonado. Yvette Soto served as Vice President and Public Relations Officer for the Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade and has been serving as President since 1999. The Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade is a non-profit corporation with the stated purpose of preserving the heritage, culture and history of Puerto Rico in New Jersey and recognizing the important economic, social and cultural contributions made by Puerto Ricans and all Latinos. Ms. Soto also founded the Atlantic County Puerto Rican Parade Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council was created with the purpose of mentoring and encouraging Latino youth to become college students and pursuing careers in different fields. Another part of the Youth Advisory Council is to start developing children and youth initiatives for the community. This program has partnerships with Universities in Puerto Rico. Yvette also served as the secretary of the Atlantic City Hispanic-American Chamber of Commerce and on the Board of Directors of Pleasantville Oasis Center for Hispanic Outreach (P-OCHO)
She serves as the President & CEO of Worldwide Entertainment, Enterprises, a music production compay that specializes in artists management, album studio production, business plans, record label industry and music publishing.
Yvette worked for (2) years for the Spanish Community Center and she was responsible for creating business plans for new programs and finding resources to fund them.
Ms. Soto worked for Center for Family Services for 3 1/2 years as the Program Director of Juntos Atlantic County Shelter. This program is funded by the United States Office of Refugee and Resettlement and provides essential services to unaccompanied minors coming from Latin America before they are reunified with their sponsors. Ms. Soto oversaw the opening of the shelter and was responsible for the operation and logistics, where she had a team of 25 employees.
In 2003, Hispanic Alliance of Atlantic County honored her in the area of Community Service. In 2005, Yvette was selected as one of “Top 40 under 40” for accomplishments in the Atlantic County Region, making her the first Puerto Rican woman to earn this honor. She was also recognized by Special Congressional Recognition. Ms. Soto was honored by the New Jersey Statewide Puerto Rican Parade Organization, for her outstanding work, commitment and dedication with the Latino community throughout South Jersey.
In 2017, she was awarded the Latino of the Year for her accomplishments with the Latino community and humanitarian efforts in Dominican Republic.
In October 2024, Yvette Soto, received the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the City of Newark Hispanic Heritage Celebration Awards.
