The Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council and the vice chair of the Atlantic County Democrats endorsed former Senate President Steve Sweeney for governor, according to releases.
Sam Ferraino Jr., the president of the Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council, said Sweeney supports working-class New Jerseyans and would improve the state’s wages and quality of life.
“Steve Sweeney is a passionate advocate for the working class, and his platform is built on addressing the everyday struggles of working families,” Ferraino said. “He understands the challenges of balancing work, family, and financial stability, and has consistently championed policies aimed at improving wages, job security, and access to affordable healthcare.”
Thelma Witherspoon, the vice chair of Atlantic Democrats and a Hamilton Township committeewoman, also endorsed Sweeney. Witherspoon’s endorsement comes after County Chairman Michael Suleiman’s endorsement of Sweeney.
“With so many people deeply concerned about the future of our country, it’s important that we unite behind a candidate who can win back the voters that we lost in November,” Witherspoon said in a release. “Whether I’m talking to my neighbors in Hamilton Township or with volunteers in Atlantic City at my food distributions, the one thing I hear over and over is a desire for Democrats to get back to their working-class roots. That’s why I’m proud to support my longtime friend Steve Sweeney.”
